Global internet blackout on devices

Find out which devices stop working and why this blackout is due.

Today, Thursday, September 30, a large number of electronic devices will stop working, they will not be able to continue connecting to the network.

Tablets, consoles, televisions and old cell phones are the ones that will be affected in this court, due to the expiration of the Let’s Encrypt HTTPS authentication certificate. Devices that have been produced after 2017 will not have problems in their operation as they are manufactured with ISRG Root X1, which expires only in 2035.

It is estimated that around 30% of Android cell phones would be left without access to the network, and many of the devices can be updated to avoid their discontinuation.

Some of the equipment that will stop working are the following:

iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or earlier versions
Computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or macOS 10.12.0 or earlier versions
Cell phones and tablets with Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 or earlier versions
BlackBerry with versions prior to 10.3.3
Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3 or PS4 outdated
