Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram users report service drop

Since around noon the services belonging to Facebook stopped working.

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram were the applications that began to have connectivity problems from 12:25 p.m. on Monday, October 4, . The drop in services was reported by users around the world. The services have prevented the public from making calls, sending and receiving text messages for several hours.

When loading Instagram in its web version, the message of "Server error 5xx" appeared while the app did not allow users to search, upload photos, view stories, check messages, among others. Although the app could be accessed on Facebook, the incidence was lower than the Instagram and WhatsApp networks.

“We are aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We are working on getting back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience ”reported Facebook via Twitter.

The last situation of this type occurred on June 9, 2021. However, the fall of this Monday -which also occurs in the context of a new edition of the so-called CyberDay- is one of the longest and reminded the registered on WhatsApp in February 2014, when it stopped working for 12 hours as part of its acquisition by Facebook.

Users turned to social networks: Telegram and Twitter. Also one of the curious metrics left by the day was the word WhatsApp, which was repeated more than half a million times on Twitter. On the other more serious side, it is estimated that the fall in services meant an immediate loss of 6.6 million dollars to Mark Zuckerberg, although the effects on the stock market will probably be visible on October 5.
