Neuralink announces possible implantation of chip in human brains by 2022

The company has already carried out experiments with pigs and monkeys

The Neuralink company, which specializes in technologies based on computer-brain communication, the possible fusion with computers and artificial intelligence , has announced the possibilities of starting to implant microchips in human beings on year 2022.

Elon Musk founded Neuralink in 2016, since then the company has dedicated itself to developing a chip that can be implanted in the brains of humans to stimulate brain activity , as well as recording human implications that have to do with health treatments , such as spinal injuries and also neurological disorders.

During the businessman's participation in the CEO Council Summit organized by The Wall Street Journal, he referred to the agency's plans for 2022. Next year the company intends to put the chip it presented in 2020 to the test in humans, so far it has been tested in monkeys.

"Neuralink is working well in monkeys. We are doing a lot of testing and confirming that it is safe and reliable, and that the device can be safely removed" , said the company's co-founder, and referenced the video published this year in which a monkey is seen playing Pong telepathically.

For the company to start implanting the microchip, the only thing missing is the authorization of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) . According to Elon Musk, the first people to undergo the tests will be those who have suffered a spinal cord injury. This will seek to equip them with alternative tools to face the day to day, such as the control of elements with the mind; and at the same time it will be studied whether it is possible that they recover motor functions lost in an accident, as he explained.
