Twitch bans username related to drugs or sex

The streaming platform will update its usage policies

Twitch was born in 2011 and is a live streaming platform belonging to Amazon, which specializes in the live broadcast of video games, music, lifestyle, etc. In addition, it has become one of YouTube's direct competitors.

The broadcast network this time has updated its usage policies so that usernames that have references to sex, drugs, and even bodily fluids cannot be registered or used. Twitch's stated primary goal is to encourage a community that is free of names that may be considered offensive or inappropriate.

“Usernames are really important on Twitch. They are your textual avatar in chat and a key aspect of channel branding for creators. They are searchable and have visibility across the platform," the company said in a statement.

From March 1 the update will take place. In addition, it will not allow the creation of accounts that carry these parameters, with the exception of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana “Although we have eliminated many reported offensive usernames under our current policy, we believe that a stronger standard needs to be established to cultivate a community diverse and inclusive global network on Twitch,” the company stated.

Meanwhile, accounts that do not comply with this policy will be suspended, so users must request an account reset along with a username change.
